What is the difference between a high-end production guitar and a Custom Shop model?

High-end production guitars (such as PRS Core Custom 24 or Gibson USA Standard) utilize advanced CNC precision combined with hand-finishing in standard production runs. Custom Shop models feature lower batch volumes, hand-selected tonewoods, custom hand-wound pickups, period-accurate construction, and master luthier voicing.

Why should I avoid drop-shipped high-end electric guitars?

Drop-shipped guitars are dispatched directly from logistics warehouses without unboxing or inspection. Without a bench inspection and 5-point setup by an in-house guitar technician, you risk receiving an unplayable instrument affected by climate shifts during storage and transit.

What does MusicStreet's 5-point setup include?

Every instrument sold through MusicStreet undergoes a comprehensive 5-point bench inspection: truss rod and neck relief calibration, nut slot depth check, bridge radius and intonation alignment, pickup height and electronic circuit testing, and fretboard conditioning.

Can I try boutique and custom shop guitars in person at MusicStreet?

Yes. MusicStreet operates a showroom at 10 Chequers Court, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, where players can test premium PRS, Fender, and Gibson models through high-end amplifiers in a dedicated testing environment.

Epiphone Les Paul Buyer’s Guide: Standard ’50s vs. ’60s vs. Custom vs. Studio

With authentic Kalamazoo headstock profiles, all-solid tonewoods, and premium electronic components, Epiphone's Inspired by Gibson Les Paul lineup offers professional single-cut versatility. Here is how the flagship models compare:

1. Les Paul Standard ’50s vs. ’60s

Standard ’50s: Solid mahogany body with carved hard maple cap and AAA flame veneer, chunky rounded ’50s vintage neck profile, ProBucker 1 & 2 pickups with 50s-style wiring, and CTS potentiometers delivering thick vintage PAF warmth.
Standard ’60s: SlimTaper ’60s "C" neck profile for faster lead traversal, Grover Rotomatic tuners, and ProBucker 2 & 3 pickups voiced with hotter, brighter bridge bite.

2. Les Paul Custom & Prophecy

Les Paul Custom ("Tuxedo"): Solid mahogany construction with custom multi-ply binding, ebony fingerboard, block pearloid inlays, gold hardware, and ProBucker humbuckers.
Prophecy Series: High-performance modern build featuring Fishman Fluence multi-voice active pickups (vintage PAF, modern active, and single-coil voices), 24 jumbo frets, and contoured neck heel.

3. Les Paul Special & Studio

Les Paul Special: Solid slab mahogany body loaded with twin soapbar P-90 PRO pickups, wraparound bridge, and 50s wiring for raw, touch-sensitive garage rock and blues punch.
Les Paul Studio: Lightweight mahogany body, SlimTaper neck, open-coil Alnico Classic PRO humbuckers with push-pull coil-tapping for sparkling single-coil tones.

Pickups height-balanced for equal volume output across switch positions

Frequently Asked Questions: Epiphone Les Paul Guitars

What is the difference between an Epiphone Les Paul Standard 50s and 60s? +

The primary differences are the neck profile and pickup voicing. The Standard ’50s features a thicker, rounded vintage neck profile with warmer ProBucker 1 & 2 pickups and vintage deluxe tuners. The Standard ’60s features a thinner SlimTaper neck profile for faster playing, slightly hotter ProBucker 2 & 3 pickups, and Grover Rotomatic tuners.
