What is the difference between a high-end production guitar and a Custom Shop model?

High-end production guitars (such as PRS Core Custom 24 or Gibson USA Standard) utilize advanced CNC precision combined with hand-finishing in standard production runs. Custom Shop models feature lower batch volumes, hand-selected tonewoods, custom hand-wound pickups, period-accurate construction, and master luthier voicing.

Why should I avoid drop-shipped high-end electric guitars?

Drop-shipped guitars are dispatched directly from logistics warehouses without unboxing or inspection. Without a bench inspection and 5-point setup by an in-house guitar technician, you risk receiving an unplayable instrument affected by climate shifts during storage and transit.

What does MusicStreet's 5-point setup include?

Every instrument sold through MusicStreet undergoes a comprehensive 5-point bench inspection: truss rod and neck relief calibration, nut slot depth check, bridge radius and intonation alignment, pickup height and electronic circuit testing, and fretboard conditioning.

Can I try boutique and custom shop guitars in person at MusicStreet?

Yes. MusicStreet operates a showroom at 10 Chequers Court, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, where players can test premium PRS, Fender, and Gibson models through high-end amplifiers in a dedicated testing environment.

Choosing the Right Body Construction

Solid Body

The foundation of rock, metal, pop, and blues (e.g. Stratocaster, Telecaster, Les Paul). Offers maximum sustain, feedback resistance at high gain, and immediate note attack.

Semi-Hollow Body

Constructed with a solid centre block and hollow acoustic wings. Delivers airy resonance, woody warmth, and chime while keeping high-volume feedback strictly controlled.

Hollow Body & Archtops

Fully acoustic interior chambers producing velvety low-end response, dynamic bloom, and rich harmonic overtones. The definitive choice for jazz, traditional blues, and rockabilly.

Offset & Ergonomic Profiles

Contoured waists and sculpted heel joints designed for seated balance and effortless upper-fret access. Popular among indie, alternative, prog, and modern technical players.

Decoding Electric Guitar Pickups & Electronics

Pickups translate your string vibrations into electronic signals. Understanding the core configurations helps you target the exact tone in your head:

Single-Coil Pickups Bright, snappy, and transparent with distinctive glassy highs. Iconic in Stratocaster and Telecaster bridge and neck tones.

Humbuckers (Dual-Coil) Thick, warm, and noise-cancelling with high output. Perfect for saturated distortion, heavy crunch, and creamy lead sustain.

P-90 Single-Coils The sweet spot between single-coils and humbuckers—delivering raw, gritty midrange growl with vintage harmonic bite.

Active vs. Passive Passive pickups offer organic dynamic sensitivity; active circuits (e.g. EMG, Fishman Fluence) deliver ultra-clean high output and tight modern clarity.

Yes. Every electric guitar purchased from MusicStreet is inspected and professionally set up in our on-site workshop. We adjust neck relief, optimize action height, verify intonation across the fretboard, and inspect electronics before safe packaging.

Can I test guitars and amplifiers in your Huntingdon store?

Yes. We welcome players to visit our Huntingdon showroom (10 Chequers Court, Cambridgeshire, PE29 3LJ). You can audition electric guitars through our extensive range of valve amps, solid-state combos, and pedalboards in a dedicated testing environment.

What is the best electric guitar pickup configuration for beginners?
