What is the difference between a high-end production guitar and a Custom Shop model?

High-end production guitars (such as PRS Core Custom 24 or Gibson USA Standard) utilize advanced CNC precision combined with hand-finishing in standard production runs. Custom Shop models feature lower batch volumes, hand-selected tonewoods, custom hand-wound pickups, period-accurate construction, and master luthier voicing.

Why should I avoid drop-shipped high-end electric guitars?

Drop-shipped guitars are dispatched directly from logistics warehouses without unboxing or inspection. Without a bench inspection and 5-point setup by an in-house guitar technician, you risk receiving an unplayable instrument affected by climate shifts during storage and transit.

What does MusicStreet's 5-point setup include?

Every instrument sold through MusicStreet undergoes a comprehensive 5-point bench inspection: truss rod and neck relief calibration, nut slot depth check, bridge radius and intonation alignment, pickup height and electronic circuit testing, and fretboard conditioning.

Can I try boutique and custom shop guitars in person at MusicStreet?

Yes. MusicStreet operates a showroom at 10 Chequers Court, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, where players can test premium PRS, Fender, and Gibson models through high-end amplifiers in a dedicated testing environment.

Martin Buyer’s Guide: Standard Series vs. 15 Series vs. Road & SC Series

From heirloom Nazareth masterworks to road-ready electro-acoustics, Martin designs its instruments across distinct body geometries, bracing patterns, and manufacturing tiers:

1. Standard Series: The Nazareth Benchmark

D-28 & HD-28 (The Standard of Acoustic Power): Solid Sitka spruce top paired with East Indian rosewood back and sides, forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing (HD-28), herringbone purfling, and booming low-end projection.
D-18 (Mahogany Warmth & Articulation): Solid spruce top with genuine mahogany back and sides—delivering clear, focused fundamental notes ideal for recording and bluegrass flatpicking.
000-18 & 000-28 (Auditorium Balance): Compact body with a 24.9" short scale length, offering fast, fatigue-free fretting and balanced frequency response for fingerstyle players.
D-35: Famous 3-piece rosewood back design providing extended low-end harmonic bloom for singer-songwriters.

2. 15 Series: Pure Genuine Mahogany

All-Solid Mahogany Construction: Solid mahogany top, back, sides, and neck (000-15M, D-15M) delivering warm, woody compression, strong midrange bark, and vintage blues character.
StreetMaster Distressed Finishes: Pre-aged satin finish that celebrates the look and feel of a broken-in, road-worn vintage instrument.
Simple Dovetail Neck Joint: Hand-fitted neck joinery ensuring maximum vibrational transfer between neck and body.

3. SC Series, Road Series & Modern Deluxe

SC-10E & SC-13E (Sure Align Neck): Patented Sure Align linear neck joint with an ergonomic asymmetrical body and no heel—offering unhindered access to the highest frets like an electric guitar.
Road Series (D-10E, 000-10E, GPC-11E): All-solid wood electro-acoustics featuring Fishman MX-T / Martin E1 electronics with discreet soundhole tuners.
Modern Deluxe: VTS (Vintage Tone System) aged tops, carbon fiber composite bridge plates, and Liquidmetal bridge pins for increased volume and sustain.

The Music Street Martin Workshop Promise

Fine all-solid tonewoods require exacting setup and humidity care. Before dispatch from our Huntingdon showroom, our technicians perform:

Genuine bone nut slots micro-dressed to eliminate first-fret string resistance
Compensated bone bridge saddles radiused and adjusted for effortless acoustic action
Truss rod adjusted for optimal neck relief under string tension
Ebony and East Indian rosewood fingerboards conditioned with luthier oils
Fishman, Martin E1, and LR Baggs electronics tested for clean stage output

Frequently Asked Questions: Martin Guitars

What is the difference between a Martin D-18 and a Martin D-28? +

The primary difference is the tonewood used for the back and sides. The Martin D-18 features solid genuine mahogany back and sides, producing a punchy, warm, focused fundamental tone with quick note decay—perfect for vocal accompaniment, recording, and lead flatpicking. The Martin D-28 features solid East Indian rosewood back and sides, producing deeper low-end bass resonance, scooped midrange, and rich harmonic overtones with longer sustain.

What is the difference between a Martin D-28 and an HD-28? +

While both guitars share solid spruce tops and rosewood backs/sides, the HD-28 features scalloped top bracing and classic herringbone trim. Scalloping reduces the mass of the bracing braces under the soundboard, allowing the top to vibrate more freely for enhanced bass projection and dynamic sensitivity compared to the non-scalloped bracing on the standard D-28.

What is the difference between Martin 000 and OM body shapes? +

Both the 000 (Auditorium) and OM (Orchestra Model) share the exact same body dimensions and depth. The difference lies in the scale length: the 000 has a shorter 24.9" scale with lower string tension (making bending and fingerstyle fretting easier), whereas the OM has a full 25.4" scale length (providing higher string tension, punchier volume, and greater dynamic headroom for flatpicking).

Do you buy, sell, or trade pre-owned and vintage Martin guitars? +

Yes. Music Street maintains an active certified pre-owned Martin guitar inventory. Every used Martin undergoes a rigorous multi-point inspection—checking neck angle, bridge glue integrity, fret wear, top flatness, and original internal bracing. We offer competitive part-exchange valuations against new instruments.

Do you offer free UK delivery and finance options on Martin guitars? +

Yes. Music Street provides free tracked, fully insured UK courier delivery on all orders over £99. We also offer 0% interest-free finance options at checkout alongside full manufacturer warranties on all new Martin acoustic and electro-acoustic guitars.
