What is the difference between a high-end production guitar and a Custom Shop model?

High-end production guitars (such as PRS Core Custom 24 or Gibson USA Standard) utilize advanced CNC precision combined with hand-finishing in standard production runs. Custom Shop models feature lower batch volumes, hand-selected tonewoods, custom hand-wound pickups, period-accurate construction, and master luthier voicing.

Why should I avoid drop-shipped high-end electric guitars?

Drop-shipped guitars are dispatched directly from logistics warehouses without unboxing or inspection. Without a bench inspection and 5-point setup by an in-house guitar technician, you risk receiving an unplayable instrument affected by climate shifts during storage and transit.

What does MusicStreet's 5-point setup include?

Every instrument sold through MusicStreet undergoes a comprehensive 5-point bench inspection: truss rod and neck relief calibration, nut slot depth check, bridge radius and intonation alignment, pickup height and electronic circuit testing, and fretboard conditioning.

Can I try boutique and custom shop guitars in person at MusicStreet?

Yes. MusicStreet operates a showroom at 10 Chequers Court, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, where players can test premium PRS, Fender, and Gibson models through high-end amplifiers in a dedicated testing environment.

The Anatomy of PRS Performance: Innovation & Tone

Every curve, fret, and circuit in a PRS guitar is designed to eliminate tone loss and maximize playing comfort:

TCI-Tuned Pickups (85/15 & 58/15 LT) Tuned Capacitance and Inductance (TCI) matching ensures wide frequency bandwidth and transparent note separation from clean jazz to high-gain crunch.

Phase III Locking Tuners & Nut Friction-free synthetic bone nuts and precision locking machine heads deliver rock-solid return-to-pitch stability during expressive vibrato playing.

Amplifier Pairing PRS humbuckers and single-coils are voiced to push all-valve tube amps and digital modeling systems into harmonic bloom.

Frequently Asked Questions About PRS Guitars

Are all PRS guitars inspected and set up before UK dispatch?

Yes. Every PRS guitar—from entry-level SE models to USA Core and Private Stock builds—receives our complimentary £75 workshop setup in our Huntingdon workshop prior to dispatch. We check string action, neck relief, nut slots, pickup heights, and tremolo balance so your instrument arrives ready to perform immediately.

What is the difference between PRS Core, S2, and SE models?

Core Series guitars are fully handcrafted in Maryland, USA, with deep violin-carved tops, USA hardware, and uncompromised custom-shop appointments. S2 Series guitars are built in the same Maryland factory using streamlined body shaping and USA electronics for incredible working-musician value. SE Series instruments are built to PRS's strict specifications overseas, delivering iconic styling, bird inlays, and pro playability at an accessible price point.

What is a PRS "10-Top"?

A "10-Top" is a designation given by PRS to guitars featuring exceptionally figured flame or quilt maple tops with complete, uniform grain across the entire soundboard with no dead spots. These guitars have a small "10" stamped on the back of the headstock.
