What is the difference between a high-end production guitar and a Custom Shop model?

High-end production guitars (such as PRS Core Custom 24 or Gibson USA Standard) utilize advanced CNC precision combined with hand-finishing in standard production runs. Custom Shop models feature lower batch volumes, hand-selected tonewoods, custom hand-wound pickups, period-accurate construction, and master luthier voicing.

Why should I avoid drop-shipped high-end electric guitars?

Drop-shipped guitars are dispatched directly from logistics warehouses without unboxing or inspection. Without a bench inspection and 5-point setup by an in-house guitar technician, you risk receiving an unplayable instrument affected by climate shifts during storage and transit.

What does MusicStreet's 5-point setup include?

Every instrument sold through MusicStreet undergoes a comprehensive 5-point bench inspection: truss rod and neck relief calibration, nut slot depth check, bridge radius and intonation alignment, pickup height and electronic circuit testing, and fretboard conditioning.

Can I try boutique and custom shop guitars in person at MusicStreet?

Yes. MusicStreet operates a showroom at 10 Chequers Court, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, where players can test premium PRS, Fender, and Gibson models through high-end amplifiers in a dedicated testing environment.

Defined by its sculpted twin-horn beveled mahogany body, ultra-fast SlimTaper™ neck carves, and frictionless access all the way to the 22nd fret, the SG delivers an aggressive, mid-forward roar that cuts effortlessly through any live or studio mix. As an authorised UK main dealer, MusicStreet showcases the complete lineup from the Nashville, USA factory—including the flagship Gibson SG Standard, the vintage-accurate SG Standard '61 & '61 Maestro Vibrola, the raw and punchy SG Special (P-90), the working-musician SG Tribute, and pinnacle Custom Shop 1963 SG Customs.

Why Guitarists Choose the Gibson SG

The SG is engineered for maximum stage comfort, fast neck velocity, and broad dynamic range:

Unrestricted Fret Access The neck meets the body at the 22nd fret, giving soloists seamless access to high registers without palm obstruction.

Lightweight Stage Balance Thinner beveled mahogany body significantly reduces shoulder fatigue during long rehearsals and high-energy live shows.

Valve Amplifier Synergy The mid-forward voicing of an SG drives Marshall, Vox, and Orange valve amps into iconic British rock crunch and sustain.

Frequently Asked Questions About Gibson SG Guitars

Are all Gibson SG guitars inspected and set up before UK delivery?

Yes. Every Gibson SG purchased from MusicStreet undergoes our complimentary £75 workshop setup in our Huntingdon workshop prior to dispatch. We check string action, neck relief, nut slot heights, pickup balance, and intonation so your instrument arrives ready to perform immediately.

What is the difference between a Gibson SG Standard and SG Standard '61?

The SG Standard features a full-face black "batwing" pickguard, 490R & 490T Alnico II pickups (modern punch with focused midrange), and a comfortable rounded neck carve. The SG Standard '61 pays homage to the original debut year, featuring historic 5-ply small pickguards, ring-mounted 60s Burstbucker pickups (vintage PAF output with top-end chime), a faster SlimTaper™ neck carve, and vintage keystone tuners.

How does the Gibson SG compare to the Gibson Les Paul?

While the Les Paul features a thick, carved maple top over mahogany for deep low-end warmth and heavy sustain, the SG is thinner, significantly lighter, and made entirely of solid mahogany. This gives the SG an aggressive, punchy midrange bite, snappier attack, and superior high-register neck access due to its double cutaway design.

Can I test Gibson SGs in your Huntingdon showroom?

Yes! We welcome players to our showroom at 10 Chequers Court, Huntingdon (PE29 3LJ). We have dedicated testing facilities where you can compare SG Standard, '61, Special P-90, and Tribute models side-by-side through our selection of valve amplifiers in a quiet, pressure-free environment.

Do you accept part-exchange or trade-ins on Gibson SG guitars?

Yes. We offer fair, competitive part-exchange valuations against new and pre-owned Gibson SG guitars. Bring your gear to our Huntingdon store or contact our sales team online with photographs and specifications for a prompt quote.
