What is the difference between a high-end production guitar and a Custom Shop model?

High-end production guitars (such as PRS Core Custom 24 or Gibson USA Standard) utilize advanced CNC precision combined with hand-finishing in standard production runs. Custom Shop models feature lower batch volumes, hand-selected tonewoods, custom hand-wound pickups, period-accurate construction, and master luthier voicing.

Why should I avoid drop-shipped high-end electric guitars?

Drop-shipped guitars are dispatched directly from logistics warehouses without unboxing or inspection. Without a bench inspection and 5-point setup by an in-house guitar technician, you risk receiving an unplayable instrument affected by climate shifts during storage and transit.

What does MusicStreet's 5-point setup include?

Every instrument sold through MusicStreet undergoes a comprehensive 5-point bench inspection: truss rod and neck relief calibration, nut slot depth check, bridge radius and intonation alignment, pickup height and electronic circuit testing, and fretboard conditioning.

Can I try boutique and custom shop guitars in person at MusicStreet?

Yes. MusicStreet operates a showroom at 10 Chequers Court, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, where players can test premium PRS, Fender, and Gibson models through high-end amplifiers in a dedicated testing environment.

Finding the Right Bass for Your Tone & Ergonomics

4-String Classics

The gold standard for rock, funk, soul, and blues (e.g. Precision and Jazz basses). Features a comfortable nut width, intuitive string spacing, and punchy, articulate fundamental tone.

5-String Extended Range

Equipped with a low-B string for earth-shaking sub-bass frequencies without downtuning. Essential for modern gospel, metal, prog, theatre pit work, and contemporary pop productions.

Short-Scale (30") Options

Closer fret spacing and reduced string tension deliver a warm, thumpy vintage voice with effortless reach. A superb choice for guitarists transitioning to bass, younger players, and indie artists.

Active EQ & Preamp Basses

Onboard 9V/18V preamps offering 2- or 3-band active EQ boost and cut. Sculpt treble bite, scooped mids for slapping, and deep bottom-end directly from your instrument.

Bass Tone, Amplification & Rig Essentials

Pairing your instrument with the right setup, electronics, and accessories ensures your low-end cuts through the mix cleanly:

Bass Amplifiers & Combos From compact practice combos to powerful gigging heads and cabs with direct XLR DI outputs for front-of-house feeds.

Roundwound vs. Flatwound Strings Roundwounds provide bright punch and aggressive growl; flatwounds deliver vintage, smooth Motown warmth and reduced finger noise.

Bass Preamps & DI Pedals Essential compression, overdrive, and drive pedals specifically voiced to preserve low-end frequencies without bass loss.

Padded Bass Straps Wide, ergonomic padded leather and neoprene straps designed to evenly distribute the weight of solid-body basses during long sets.

Frequently Asked Questions About Bass Guitars

Are your bass guitars professionally set up before dispatch?

Yes. Every bass guitar at MusicStreet receives a thorough workshop setup by our technicians. We calibrate neck relief, adjust string saddles for comfortable action without buzzing, level pickup outputs, and set intonation so your instrument is ready to play immediately.

Should a beginner choose a 4-string or 5-string bass?

A 4-string bass is typically recommended for most beginners due to its narrower neck, comfortable string spacing, and straightforward string muting. However, if you primarily play modern metal, gospel, or worship music where low-B notes are standard, starting on a 5-string is completely viable.

What are the advantages of a short-scale bass guitar?

Short-scale basses (30-inch scale) feature frets that are spaced closer together and lower overall string tension, making complex runs and stretches much easier on the hands. Tonally, they deliver a warm, punchy, vintage low-end with rich fundamental thud.

Can I trade in or part-exchange my current bass or amp?

Yes. We offer fair part-exchange valuations against new or pre-owned equipment. Bring your gear to our Huntingdon store or contact our sales team online with photographs and specifications for a prompt quote.

What warranty and shipping protection do you provide?

All orders over £99 receive free mainland UK courier shipping. New instruments include full manufacturer coverage bolstered by MusicStreet’s 1-year in-house warranty and ongoing workshop support.
