Your most versatile bass sound
A tone that sculpted generations of music. The Player Jazz Bass is home to a sound so versatile, it flourishes in any genre. But how? The thumping power of two classic single-coil pickups have been at the forefront of countless musicians' success across multiple genres. From rock 'n' roll and punk, to jazz and pop - the Jazz Bass excels in absolutely every department. And the Player J-Bass is no exception.
Equipped with a pair of Player Series Alnico 5 pickups, each note you play will seamlessly punch through the mix and maintain elite clarity throughout your performance. The Alnico 5 magnets offer even more power in both tone and response, kicking out a rich, rumbling foundation for your live sound. And it's no-nonsense attitude is complete with a set of easy-to-use tone and volume controls. So you can shape your bass' voice the way you want it. Total control. Complete freedom.
Born to perform
Every inch of the Player Jazz Bass is crafted for performance. And it shows. A lightweight alder body lets players roam free on stage, along with an ergonomic, dual-cutaway design for maximum comfort - standing or sitting. Fender know better than anyone that a bass should enhance creativity. And this Player Series model is certainly no exception.
The maple neck is shaped into a modern “C”, fitting perfectly into the palm of your hand. This way, you can play every riff, chord, and solo with total control and precision. Satin-finished on the back and glossed on the front – all surfaces of the fretboard and neck are distinctively sleek. What this means, is that your fingers will soar across the pau ferro fingerboard whilst movement of your hand will remain fluid across the back of the neck, ideal for fast playing. Put simply, the Player Jazz Bass won’t hold you back. Because, ultimately, Fender know what it takes to deliver a truly refined playing experience.
A storied history, a bright future
At the turn of the '60s the Fender Jazz Bass was born. After the domination of the P Bass throughout the '50s, Fender decided to extend their bass range to feature the more stylish and deluxe Jazz Bass. With its new pickup design, the Jazz bass offered much more tonal versatility than the Precision bass. You didn't just get a single sound, you got an entire palette of bass tones. Bass playing would no longer be a way to add low end to the mix, with the Jazz Bass, it became an experience.
50 years of storied history later and the Jazz Bass has been able to hold on. Over its half-century of existence, the Jazz Bass has been used by all of the legends. Marcus Miller, Geddy Lee, Flea, and even Jaco himself. The Jazz Bass is a serious bass for serious players. It's cool, it's versatile, and it shows no sign of letting go.
