What is the difference between a high-end production guitar and a Custom Shop model?

High-end production guitars (such as PRS Core Custom 24 or Gibson USA Standard) utilize advanced CNC precision combined with hand-finishing in standard production runs. Custom Shop models feature lower batch volumes, hand-selected tonewoods, custom hand-wound pickups, period-accurate construction, and master luthier voicing.

Why should I avoid drop-shipped high-end electric guitars?

Drop-shipped guitars are dispatched directly from logistics warehouses without unboxing or inspection. Without a bench inspection and 5-point setup by an in-house guitar technician, you risk receiving an unplayable instrument affected by climate shifts during storage and transit.

What does MusicStreet's 5-point setup include?

Every instrument sold through MusicStreet undergoes a comprehensive 5-point bench inspection: truss rod and neck relief calibration, nut slot depth check, bridge radius and intonation alignment, pickup height and electronic circuit testing, and fretboard conditioning.

Can I try boutique and custom shop guitars in person at MusicStreet?

Yes. MusicStreet operates a showroom at 10 Chequers Court, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, where players can test premium PRS, Fender, and Gibson models through high-end amplifiers in a dedicated testing environment.

Yamaha Acoustic Buyer’s Guide: FG vs. FS vs. L-Series A.R.E. & TransAcoustic Technology

From best-selling student folk acoustics to master-grade all-solid concert instruments, Yamaha structures its acoustic lineup across four flagship series and proprietary lutherie technologies:

1. FG vs. FS Series: Scalloped Bracing Power

FG Series (Traditional Western Dreadnought): Full-sized acoustic body delivering deep low-end punch, robust acoustic volume, and punchy strumming projection (FG800, FG820, FG830, FG850).
FS Series (Concert / Small Body): Compact body with a narrower waist and 25" scale length—offering exceptional playing comfort and articulate note definition for fingerstyle players (FS800, FS830).
Scalloped Bracing: Yamaha’s proprietary scalloped top bracing design boosts bass response and structural resonance without compromising soundboard integrity.

2. L-Series & A.R.E. Tonewood Technology

A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement): Yamaha’s patented thermal aging treatment transforms new Engelmann spruce soundboards at the molecular level, delivering the mature, complex, and open sustain of a vintage 30-year-old acoustic.
All-Solid Luxury (LL16 / LS16 / LJ16): Solid Engelmann spruce tops paired with solid rosewood or mahogany back and sides, 5-ply mahogany/rosewood necks, and passive SRT Zero Impact pickup systems.
Jumbo & Small Formats: LL (Original Jumbo), LS (Small Body), and LJ (Medium Jumbo).

3. TransAcoustic & A-Series Stage Electros

TransAcoustic Technology (TAG3 C, FG-TA, FS-TA, LL-TA): Built-in internal actuator vibrates the guitar body in real-time, creating authentic acoustic reverb and chorus directly from the soundhole without plugging into an amplifier.
A-Series Stage Guitars (A1, A3, A5 Series): Designed for touring musicians with ergonomic slim neck tapers, rolled fretboard edges, and Studio Response Technology (SRT) modeling preamps.

The Music Street Acoustic Workshop Promise

Acoustic playability depends on accurate action and humidity care. Before dispatch from our Huntingdon showroom, our guitar technicians perform:

Urea / Bone nut slots micro-dressed to reduce first-fret string resistance
Composite / Bone bridge saddles radiused and shaved for low, buzz-free fingerstyle action
Truss rod adjusted for optimal neck relief under full acoustic string tension
Rosewood / Ebony fingerboards conditioned with organic luthier oils
TransAcoustic actuators, SRT preamps, and piezo pickups output-tested

Frequently Asked Questions: Yamaha Acoustic Guitars

What is the difference between Yamaha FG and FS acoustic guitars? +

The primary difference is the body shape and size. The FG (Folk Guitar) is a Traditional Western dreadnought with a deeper body and broader lower bout, producing greater low-end acoustic volume and projection for strumming. The FS (Folk Small) is a Concert-sized acoustic with a slimmer waist, shallower depth, and shorter 25" scale length, making it more comfortable to hold and providing faster transient response for fingerpicking.

How does Yamaha TransAcoustic technology create reverb and chorus without an amp? +

Yamaha TransAcoustic guitars feature a specialized electromagnetic actuator installed on the inside surface of the guitar back. When you play a string, the pickup sends the vibration to the actuator, which in turn physically vibrates the entire guitar body. The guitar’s own soundboard and air chamber amplify the wet reverb and chorus effects naturally out of the soundhole with zero cables or external speakers required.

What is Yamaha A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement) tonewood treatment? +

A.R.E. is Yamaha's patented wood-aging technology. By precisely controlling temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure, the molecular structure of the solid Engelmann spruce soundboard is manipulated to match the acoustic properties of wood that has naturally aged over decades. This results in richer low-end warmth, increased acoustic sustain, and sweet harmonic overtones right from day one.

Is the Yamaha FG800 a good guitar for beginners and intermediate players? +

Yes. The Yamaha FG800 is widely recognized as the industry benchmark for entry-to-intermediate acoustic guitars. Unlike many budget acoustics that use laminate tops, the FG800 features a solid Sitka spruce top and scalloped bracing, delivering rich acoustic projection, dynamic touch response, and exceptional long-term tuning stability at an accessible price point.

Do you offer free UK delivery and finance options on Yamaha acoustic guitars? +

Yes. Music Street provides free tracked, fully insured UK courier delivery on all orders over £99. We also offer 0% interest-free finance options at checkout alongside competitive part-exchange valuations on your current instruments.
