What is the difference between a high-end production guitar and a Custom Shop model?

High-end production guitars (such as PRS Core Custom 24 or Gibson USA Standard) utilize advanced CNC precision combined with hand-finishing in standard production runs. Custom Shop models feature lower batch volumes, hand-selected tonewoods, custom hand-wound pickups, period-accurate construction, and master luthier voicing.

Why should I avoid drop-shipped high-end electric guitars?

Drop-shipped guitars are dispatched directly from logistics warehouses without unboxing or inspection. Without a bench inspection and 5-point setup by an in-house guitar technician, you risk receiving an unplayable instrument affected by climate shifts during storage and transit.

What does MusicStreet's 5-point setup include?

Every instrument sold through MusicStreet undergoes a comprehensive 5-point bench inspection: truss rod and neck relief calibration, nut slot depth check, bridge radius and intonation alignment, pickup height and electronic circuit testing, and fretboard conditioning.

Can I try boutique and custom shop guitars in person at MusicStreet?

Yes. MusicStreet operates a showroom at 10 Chequers Court, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, where players can test premium PRS, Fender, and Gibson models through high-end amplifiers in a dedicated testing environment.

Care & Maintenance Of Custom 24 PRS Guitars

Taking care of your guitar is crucial to ensure it sounds great and lasts a long time. However, some common mistakes can harm your guitar. Here's what you need to avoid:

Ignoring Regular Cleaning: Not cleaning your PRS guitar regularly can lead to a build-up of dirt and oils, which can damage the finish and affect the sound. Always use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe down your guitar after playing.
Gentle Handling: Avoid putting too much pressure on your guitar's neck. Rough handling or applying force can lead to warping or even snapping, which compromises the guitar's integrity and playability.
Monitor Bridge and Saddle: The bridge and saddle play crucial roles in your guitar's intonation and action. If you notice issues with tuning or playability, these parts may need adjustment. This is best done by a professional to ensure optimal performance.
Neglecting Humidity Control: Too much or too little humidity can warp the wood of your guitar. Try to keep your guitar in an environment with stable humidity, using a humidifier or dehumidifier if necessary.
Forgetting to Tune Regularly: Playing an untuned guitar can lead to bad habits. Use a tuner to ensure your guitar is always in perfect pitch for the best sound.
Overlooking Fretboard Care: The fretboard needs occasional cleaning and conditioning to prevent cracking. Use products designed for fretboard care, especially if it's made of rosewood or ebony.
Tightening the Strap Buttons Without Caution: Strap buttons can become loose over time, but over-tightening them can strip the wood. If they're loose, carefully tighten them or take your guitar to a professional for repair.
Polish - Use a guitar polish designed for your guitar's finish occasionally to keep it shiny and protected.

Useful Accessories for PRS Custom 24

If you've got a PRS Custom 24, matching it with the right guitar accessories can really up your game and take care of your guitar. But, it's easy to slip up if you're not sure what to pick. Here's a simple guide to some handy accessories:

Guitar cables:

You need good guitar cables to connect your guitar to an amp. Don't go for the cheap ones; they might ruin your sound and break easily, which is the last thing you want during a show.

Guitar Care:

To keep your guitar looking shiny and new, get some quality guitar care products. Household cleaners are a big no-no for your guitar; they can mess up the finish.

Guitar tuner:

A solid guitar tuner is essential to make sure your guitar is always sounding right. And if you want to keep your timing sharp, use a metronome. Try not to rely on your phone for these; real tuners and metronomes do a better job.

Guitar amp:

Pairing your guitar with a good guitar amp can really boost your sound. Remember, not all amps are the same; finding one that suits your music style can make a huge difference.

Guitar strings:

Changing your guitar strings regularly will keep your tunes sounding bright. Don't wait till they snap; old strings can dull your sound.

Strap Buttons and Straplocks:

Make sure your strap is securely attached to your guitar with good strap buttons and straplocks, especially when you're playing live. You don't want your guitar to fall off in the middle of a song—that's every guitarist's nightmare.

Guitar stand:

A reliable guitar stand is key for when you're not playing your guitar. Don't just lean it against a wall or lay it on the ground; that's asking for trouble.
