The MusicStreet Setup Advantage: Why Your Classical Guitar Deserves It
Classical guitars are highly expressive, beautifully resonant instruments, but their unique construction makes them exceptionally sensitive to environmental changes. Because classical bodies feature lightweight fan bracing and thin solid spruce or cedar tops, the wood expands and contracts rapidly under shifting temperatures and relative humidity levels. Without a precise setup, players can experience neck relief shifts, bridge lifting, uneven string action, and tuning instability.
At MusicStreet, we ensure your nylon-string acoustic plays flawlessly from the moment you open the case. We perform a **complimentary £75 professional workshop setup** on every single classical guitar we sell. Our expert luthiers adjust the truss rod (where applicable), file the nut slots to eliminate tuning friction, set the bridge height and saddle radius for a comfortable low action, set the intonation, and polish the frets.
🔧 Free £75 Professional Setup
Every classical guitar is individually set up in our in-house workshop. We adjust the action, intonation, neck relief, and nut slots to match your playing style, ensuring it plays perfectly straight out of the box.
🛡️ 12-Month Warranty
We stand behind every instrument we sell. All of our classical guitars come with a full 12-month warranty, giving you complete peace of mind with your purchase.

The Art of the Nylon String Acoustic Guitar: Construction & Tone
While steel-string acoustics are famous for their bright, metallic projection, a nylon string acoustic guitar relies on a completely different set of design principles to produce its signature warm, woody, and complex voice. Understanding these unique construction elements is key to finding the right instrument for your style:
Classical Purists
For traditionalists, the wide string spacing and flat fingerboard are essential for executing complex polyphonic pieces, delicate counterpoint, and precise fingerstyle techniques with absolute clarity. Traditional fan bracing patterns beneath the soundboard allow the thin spruce or cedar top to vibrate freely under the lower tension of nylon strings.
Flamenco & Latin Players
Flamenco guitars feature slightly thinner tops and shallower bodies, delivering the fast, percussive attack, bright growl, and quick decay required for aggressive rasgueado strumming and rapid lead runs. Often built with cypress or sycamore backs and sides, they cut through the mix with incredible percussive power.
Beginners & Pre-Owned
Nylon strings are significantly softer and under much lower tension than steel strings. This makes them incredibly gentle on developing fingertips, making classical guitars a highly popular choice for beginners. We also stock a constantly rotating selection of certified pre-owned classical guitars. Explore our used range in our Pre-Owned Collection or view the parent Acoustic Guitars collection.

Frequently Asked Questions About Classical Guitars
What is the main difference between a classical guitar and a steel-string acoustic? +
The primary differences are the strings, neck shape, and internal construction. Classical guitars use nylon strings (which produce a warm, mellow tone and are soft to the touch), have wider, flat fingerboards, and utilize lightweight fan bracing. Steel-string acoustics use high-tension steel strings (producing a bright, loud, and metallic tone), have narrower, radiused fingerboards, and utilize heavier X-bracing to withstand the high string tension.
Can I put steel strings on a classical guitar? +
No, absolutely not. Classical guitars are built with lightweight internal fan bracing and do not have a steel truss rod in the neck. The tension of steel strings is more than double that of nylon strings. Putting steel strings on a classical guitar will warp the neck, lift the bridge, and permanently destroy the instrument's top. Always use nylon strings on classical guitars.
Is a classical guitar good for beginners? +
Yes, classical guitars are excellent for beginners. Because nylon strings are soft and under low tension, they do not hurt developing fingers nearly as much as steel strings, allowing beginners to practice for longer periods without discomfort. However, the wider neck can sometimes be a stretch for very small hands, in which case a 3/4 size classical guitar is highly recommended.
Can I trade in my old gear toward a purchase? +
Absolutely. We offer a highly competitive part-exchange program. You can bring your gear directly to our Huntingdon showroom for an on-the-spot valuation, or contact us online with photos and details to receive a preliminary trade-in estimate.
