By now you’ve probably heard of John Mayer’s PRS Silver Sky, and those who have owned or played one know just how good it is. After John’s time playing with Dead and Co. at the start of the year, he was worked again with PRS to develop his guitar further to create the PRS ‘Dead Spec’ Silver Sky. This modded version of John’s workhorse comes with significant changes to provide you with new, and exciting tones!

Swamp Ash Goodness

The lightweight Swamp Ash body finished in a beautiful satin nitro finish really emphasises the grain and of the body, allowing it to breathe to give you a bright high-end, with plenty of warmth in to boost the mid-range, and an overall clearer resonance.

‘Dead Spec’ Spec

The most notable of upgrades to the Silver Sky is the brass-plate Alembic Blaster preamp jack plate, which pays homage to Jerry Garcia’s ‘Alligator’ Strat. The preamp can be used as a straight boost or to add between 3-14dB of gain when activated. Not only does this add more crunch whilst maintaining that crisp single coil tone, but it also provides easy and supported access for long cables, with the option to completely bypass the preamp using the switch.

Other upgrades to the Silver Sky include a modified PRS Gen III tremolo that has been hardtailed for an effective string-thru-body tuning stability, as well as a brass block in the trem that provides you with unparalleled musical warmth. On the head stock, there is a string retainer, and the bone nut has been replaced with a brass nut which contributes to the overall, heavier tuning stability, resonance, and tone, giving you a whole new Silver Sky.
